Modifieds Headline Friday Night Opener
At Gas City I-69 Speedway June 19
GAS CITY, Ind., June 12 – After the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midgets and non-wing sprint cars take center stage to kick off the 2020 racing season at Gas City I-69 Speedway this coming Wednesday night, June 17, the exciting and popular UMP-style modifieds will headline a four-class card for the “Tin Roof Spectacular” when weekly Friday night racing begins there two days later on June 19.
With weekly racing still dormant in surrounding states, a stellar field of top modifieds from throughout the Midwest is expected to compete in wheel-to-wheel action on the quarter-mile, semi-banked clay oval located about halfway between Indianapolis and Fort Wayne. The modified card will include heats, B-main(s) and a 25-lap feature.
Fender-rubbing street stocks will also make their first appearance of the season. Rules for the street stocks will be the same as last year’s “Fall Festival of Speed” program, making cars from several regional tracks eligible. The street stocks will compete in preliminary heats, a B-main (if necessary), and a 20-lap feature.
The popular and colorful compacts will fill out the stock car portion of the racing card with heats and a 15-lap feature. Rear- and front-wheel-drive cars with VTEC engines are also eligible this year. For complete race car rules go to www.gascityi69speedway.com/driver-info/rules/.
Open-wheel fans will be excited to learn the USAC Midwest Thunder SpeeD2 Midget Series will also be part of the show with preliminary races and a 20-lap feature. Lightning/micro sprints are also eligible to compete with the midgets.
Tickets, priced at $15 for adults and $10 for students, will be available at the speedway box office. Children 12 and under are free. Pit passes, at $30 each, will be sold at the Indiana Oxygen-sponsored pit sign-in building.
The pit gate will open at 3 p.m.; spectator gates at 5, and the racing will start at 7:30.
Friday night racing will continue on June 26 with non-wing sprint cars, modifieds, street stocks and compacts.
